YOUNG LOVE

Rumors had been swirling about a possible love connection between and in 2005, which the lovebirds confirmed during a color-coordinated April appearance at an Italian awards show, where Cruise received a lifetime achievement award.

WILD THINGS

By June 2005, things were hot and heavy between the pair, as evidenced by their matching leather jackets, stylish sunnies and boot-cut jeans as they arrived via motorcycle for the L.A. premiere of his film War of the Worlds. Don’t worry: They waited until the bike stopped before engaging in PDA.

If there were any doubts that the two were madly in love, Tom put them to rest with a series of dips and kisses on red carpets around the world. For the N.Y.C. War of the Worlds premiere, Katie was ready for her center-stage moment in a flouncy teal frock and low-heeled metallic pumps.

All that dipping and kissing must not have been just for show, because by February 2006, Katie (seen here in L.A.) was quite pregnant. Tom wore his signature tailored suit and aviators, while Holmes wore a loose black dress with a pleated skirt and strappy heels.

The couple pulled out all the stops for their November 2006 nuptials in Italy. Katie wore a custom off-the-shoulder Armani gown with an ivory silk train adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski embroidery. Her handsome groom sported a navy blue tuxedo from the Giorgio Armani Hand Made to Measure collection, with a jacket label that read, “Giorgio Armani for Tom Cruise.” And 7-month-old Suri? She wore her own Armani confection, “inspired by her mother’s gown.”

At the February 2007 Vanity Fair Oscar party, Cruise showed off his new wife, who paid tribute to her wedding dress designer in a pleated, ruffled Armani gown with a full train and matching shawl. He opted for classic elegance, wearing a two-button suit and patent loafers.

The year before Holmes announced an impending clothing line, she was already taking fashion risks, adding a scarf around the neck to match the tulle mini-train of her white-and black gown, worn to a LACMA event in L.A. True to their always-complementary style, Cruise opted for a graphic gray, black and white ensemble.

How did Holmes pick her eye-catching ensemble, worn to the 2008 Met Gala? With the help of her 2-year-old daughter! “I had this beautiful red gown and these royal-blue shoes that I wasn’t planning on wearing,” Holmes said later, “but Suri made me put them on and so I was like, ‘Okay, I trust you.’” Cruise also stepped up his style game, wearing a white tie with his three-piece suit.

FAMILY AFFAIR

INF

Though she was not yet cast as Jackie Kennedy, the actress was already referencing her ’60s doppelgänger while out and about in 2009, hitting a beach in Brazil wearing a chic yellow sheath, pretty pink head scarf and coordinating bag. A casually attired Tom toted Suri, who (as always) ended up being the real style star in the photo.

LAST DANCE

For their last red carpet appearance together in February 2012, the actor, just off a whirlwind Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol tour, stuck to his favorite classic tuxedo, while the actress opted for a pleated, draped Elie Saab gown, worn with a Lanvin clutch and heavy bangs.
