Under able guidance of Gregory Ratoff, Ingrid Bergman turns in a persuasive and sympathetic performance. Warner Baxter does well as the head of the household, steeped in good old American tradition that family bonds are unbreakable.

In 1907, young Bergman arrives from abroad to assume charge of the four young boys as governess. She soon becomes one of the family, but sudden death of the wife, followed by family’s financial collapse necessitate the girl returning home.
